About

TODD L. WILLIAMS (writer / producer / director) is a Peabody Award-Winning filmmaker. Before following his passion for film/TV, he covered popular culture as a freelance journalist for publications: Elle, Premiere, Interview, Essence, Vibe. Later he accepted a full time position at The Source Magazine as the film and media editor. Moving West to Los Angeles, Williams broke into TV as a segment producer on “The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show,” then later “Russell Simmons One World Music Beat.” Next he joined Fox’s highly rated docu-series “TV Guide’s Truth Behind the Sitcom.” In 2000, he joined VH-1’s award winning doc series, “Behind the Music,” writing and producing several episodes, including pioneering rap troupe Public Enemy, and groundbreaking female trio, Salt N Pepa.

    In 2001, he formed Post Consumer Media, a full-fledged production company that specializes in behind-the-scenes featurettes and long-form documentaries for television and DVD. Clients include Sony, MGM, Paramount, Fox and New Line. Later that year, he directed a comedy film short about the life of Hollywood agent, Michael Gruber, which featured Academy Award winners, Jamie Foxx and George Clooney, as well as, Cindy Crawford, Dennis Leary and other notables.

    In July 2005, Mr. Williams was awarded the prestigious Peabody Award for writing and directing the feature documentary “The N Word,” which was exec-produced by Bravo’s Andy Cohen. The feature length documentary -- starred Richard Pryor, Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, George Carlin, Quincy Jones, Bryant Gumble and others – explored the power and pain of the centuries old epithet. In 2007, Mr. Williams created and executive produced a scripted drama series “The Black Book Diaries” for BET networks. In the same year, he produced and wrote an episode of BET’s American Gangster (Rayful Edmond). In 2009, he embarked on an ambitious project with VH-1’s Rock Doc division, serving as producer and director of the 90min. documentary “The Deffest Story Ever Told”, a richly-detailed chronicling of Def Jam recordings storied rise. In the summer of 2010, he produced and directed a special 90min. VH1 “Behind The Music” on the multi-talented star Jennifer Lopez. After a decade of freelancing, he joined BET’s creative services department as a full-time On-Air Promo producer-director. In 2013, Mr. Williams joined the reality world as a producer on the Bravo special “I Dream of Nene,” which follows reality diva, Nene Leakes’ rocky road to matrimony. Returning to his documentary roots, Mr. Williams produced two episodes of CNN’s docu-series SOUNDTRACKS, an incisive look at history through the lens of music. The series was Executive Produced by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and his 7 Bucks production company.
